U.S. congress prepares bill on providing $1 bln to arm Ukraine

Republicans and Democrats in the U.S. Congress have prepared a bill on the provision of $1 billion in lethal defensive aid to Ukraine.

The proposed bill envisages the provision of training, equipment and lethal defensive weapons to the security forces of Ukraine through September 30, 2017.

Member of the U.S. House Armed Services Committee, Congressman Adam Smith told reporters: “It seems Russia has decided to go back to the Cold War.”

In his words, the introduction of economic sanctions has not changed Russian President Vladimir Putin’s plans.

One country starts a war at its’ neighbor. They send troops, tanks, ignore every treaty that they signed, and are bent on mindless bloodshed. Doesn’t this remind you of Nazi’s in 1938? Isn’t it time not to repeat past mistakes and actually help the victim here? When did we forget right from wrong, behind all the talk of realpolitik?
Putin is a bully. Nothing more. Only two things have ever stopped a bully:

    1) a hard punch in the nose

    2) the fear of getting one.
The lessons of the 1930s must not be forgotten.

You seem, with a truly inspiring consistency in this ever more fluctuating wolrd, to have got all the true lessons of the 1930s in Europe wrong.
Not wrong in degree, wrong in essence.
One can have a low estimate of Vladimir Putin (and few have a lower opinion of him than I do), and still see the U.S. and NATO as aggressors in the now 300-day war in Europe. War immeditately near when not on and even across the Russian border.

Reading Nil Nilsen’s post, I assumed he was writing about the “West” ie NATO/US. Sorry, Nil,what you infer is arrant nonsense. There is plenty of US interference and threats, but Russia consistently explains it wants Ukraine to remain as it was, with fair treatment for Russian speakers, NOT war, killing, arming, waste as the West is encouraging now.
Your idea of history seems to miss the fact that it was the Red Army that really defeated Nazism. The US interference now is encouraging its resurgence in the Ukraine.

While the Normandy 4 meet for peace, sincere or not, the United States plans for war. The US is looking like the odd man out these days with 1 billion dollars for lethal weapons to promote more civil war in Ukraine. How embarrassing for the people of the United States, democracy promotion by the barrel of guns. Nothing new there, nil.

How to overthrow a government has a now established pattern so if an article has a Putin reference it fits the pattern of control of narrative. Putin has a good approval rating in Russia, but quite suddenly now has an assorted collection of ailments/shortcomings per the western media! The article is clever, starting with quite shameful news encouraging war and ending on the same old note (Putin! not again, boring!) but you remember it…

The article announces new lethal weapons from the US. Lethal weapons kill people.
